Officials running out to a yacht by tender for the CIQP boarding

Port Services

Arrive at Benoa already expected

Four things have to be arranged before you reach Indonesian waters. Miss one and the usual result is days at anchor while officials reconcile your file.

In short

CAIT is gone. It was replaced by an electronic vessel declaration lodged online before you enter Indonesian waters.

  • The declaration is faster, but it must match your actual arrival port.
  • Mismatched crew lists and wrong port codes still delay most boardings.
  • This desk coordinates licensed agents; it does not hold the agency licence itself.

The CIQP sequence

Four authorities, in a defined order

Indonesia clears foreign yachts at a designated port of entry. Benoa is the practical choice for vessels arriving from Singapore, Australia or the Indian Ocean.

  1. 01

    The vessel declaration

Lodged online before you enter Indonesian waters: vessel, flag, tonnage, crew list, intended ports. The agent files it; the desk verifies the data against your documents first.

  2. 02

    Customs & temporary import

The yacht enters as a visiting pleasure craft rather than a dutiable import. Officers board at Benoa, sight the vessel and endorse the file — the stamped papers stay aboard all season.

  3. 03

    Immigration

Every person aboard clears individually. Visa on arrival suits short stays; crew on rotation and owners planning months east are usually better served by an e-visa arranged beforehand.

  4. 04

    Quarantine & port health

The maritime declaration of health is reviewed and free pratique granted. Quick when the paperwork agrees with itself, slow when it does not.

  5. 05

    The Harbourmaster

Clearing in is not the end of it. Every leg between Indonesian ports needs port clearance from the departing harbourmaster before you sail.

For a Bali–Komodo–Raja Ampat season that means formalities at every stop. The desk lines up agents at each port in advance, so the outbound clearance is ready when you want to leave rather than requested after you have decided to.

Working figures

What clearance actually costs

Costs split in two: government charges, which are modest, and agent fees, which are the real cost and scale with vessel size and port.

Full clearance-in at Benoa

Typical range
USD 600–1,500
Notes
Agent fee and CIQP coordination, by LOA. Excludes berth and fuel.

Clearance-out of Indonesia

Typical range
USD 400–1,000
Notes
At the end of the season, from your final Indonesian port.

Inter-port formalities, per port

Typical range
USD 150–500
Notes
Labuan Bajo, Sorong and every other stop between them.

Crew e-visa, per person

Typical range
USD 50–200
Notes
By visa type. Arranged before arrival where a longer category fits better.

Desk coordination fee

Typical range
Quoted flat
Notes
Per season, agreed in writing before any work starts.

A clean quote shows three layers separately: government charges, agency fees, and handling. Quotes that bundle "permits" into one unreceipted number are where visiting yachts overpay most in Indonesia — send us one and we will read it with you.

Where it gets individual

Vessels over 40 metres, and anyone chartering

Vessels over roughly 40 metres are priced individually, because the regulatory position changes with size.

So does intent. Private cruising and commercial charter are treated very differently in Indonesian waters, and a season structured on the wrong assumption is expensive to unpick. If chartering is part of the plan, say so before the file is opened.
